How To Make Southern Caramel Cake?
- FOR THE CAKE:
6 large eggs.
3 cups all-purpose flour.
2 cups and half granulated white sugar
1 cup and half shortening.
1 cup and half almond milk.
1 tbsp baking powder.
A pinch of salt.
- FOR THE ICING:
1 cup white sugar.
1 cup of brown sugar.
1 cun condensed milk.
1 stick unsalted butter.
1 tsp pure vanilla extract.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. And grease 2 round cake pans.
Whisk dry ingredients in a medium bowl, set aside.
Beat sugar and shortening until smooth, then add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then add vanilla, almond milk, and dry ingredients mixture beat again for 2 to 3 minutes but be careful not to over mix.
Pour the batter into greased pans and place in the oven for 30 to 35 minutes.
Combine white and brown sugar in a large saucepan, add butter, condensed milk. Place the saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring well until thickened.
Add vanilla and a pinch of sea salt, cook the mixture for 7 more minutes.
Remove pans from the oven and let cool completely.
Pour 1 cup over the first cake layer, put the second one, and pour remaining frosting over the top. Slice and serve!
